Ian Summers Biography
Ian Summers has been a lot of things like an art director, creative director, painter, poet, investigative journalist, think tank operator, teacher, and publisher to name a few. Ian was Creative Director of The Creative Black Book., Leber Katz Partners, and Random House. He's won lots of awards in the advertising and publishing worlds including a Gold Medal from The Society of Illustrators. Ian has written and designed dozens of books including Tomorrow and Beyond, Mute Evidence, The Guide to Extraterrestrials, and The Art of The Brothers Hildebrandt.
Summers reinvented himself, identified his loves, and rediscovered his passion for teaching. He synthesized all the things that worked in his career and created Ian Summers' Creativity Workshop. Since 1987, thousands of creators who wish to grow, do what they love and prosper have participated in individual and group workshops. In 1994, Summers developed Heartstorming Adventure Trainings to meet the ever changing needs and desires of creatives.
He holds a BA degree in Art Education from the University of Bridgeport and has done graduate work at Montclair College and New York University. He has taught at Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, and New School for Social Research. He has lectured on creativity at many colleges including Syracuse University, UCLA, and The Portfolio Center. Summers has presented seminars at every Photo Plus Expo.
Ian is influenced by the modern masters, outsider artists, Native American glyphs, ancient myths, and poetry. Summers fine art has been exhibited in the United States and Europe. He is presently represented by Oxygen in Minneapolis MN. Summers work has been shown at Silvermine Artists Guild, Jac & Company, National Arts Club, University of Bridgeport, Lillian Kornbluth Gallery, National Academy of Design, Pfaffman Gallery, University of Pennsylvania, Arthur Ross Gallery, Montclair College, National Association of Painters in Acrylics, Leber Katz Partners, Random House, The Creative Black Book, Audubon Painters, and New York University. He recently had a solo show of his work at Project Blue in Easton PA.
Summers lives with his wife in an artist’s loft in Easton PA where he paints and presents workshops.
